Episode 9: Fasten your seatbelts, we're taking off

From 7 to 20 AI agents in a few weeks. The latest was born in fifteen minutes: Sofia, an agent herself, creates the agents.

My latest agent was born in fifteen minutes.

I had a clear picture and knew exactly what I needed. I briefed Sofia, my Chief of Staff, on the spirit in which to create this new agent. Then I moved on to something else. When I came back, the agent was there: scope, operating rules, objectives, guardrails, skills. Ready to work.

You have to appreciate how far we’ve come. My first agents were hard going: a week per agent, easily. Designing an agent takes a great deal of abstract thinking, and everything was new. Before I could even learn to work with an agent, I had to understand what an agent is. How it is built. How you interact with it. What you can entrust to it.

Once those first agents were in place, the pay-off came. They took over a whole load of tasks that were making my life a misery. And when I say a load, I mean a serious load. They also keep up a relentless pace. As we’ve seen, provided you can tell them what to do, they never stop.

But the real gain is elsewhere. Sofia knows me. She knows Djtal, she knows what is already in place, she knows our operating rules. So now she creates the agents herself. I explain what I need, in writing or out loud: both work very well. And she sets up the new agent with frightening efficiency. A task that used to cost me a week now takes two hours. My share? Half an hour, sometimes fifteen minutes.

The time she spends on it? It doesn’t count. While she works, I work on something else. That’s where the real gains begin.

In a few weeks, then, I went from 7 agents to 19. Well, let’s say 20, counting the very latest, which I’m adding later today. A fleet. It’s impressive, it’s exciting, it’s a joy. And above all, my word, it works.

Stepping back, I find myself thinking of the first episode. That dream of inventing people who could help me with my work, hazier than a memory. It is taking on a whole new dimension, now that the team builds the team. Djtal has well and truly taken off and reached cruising speed. Actually, that’s the wrong phrase. This is no leisurely cruise, because everything keeps speeding up.

So, fasten your seatbelts, here we go!
