What is an AI-native company?

In an AI-native company, AI is part of everyday operations. At Djtal, the finance agent imports the bank's payment file and reconciles the entries. Eight other agents run communications, market intelligence, administration and knowledge management, and every decision stays with people.

In brief

AI-native company: the definition.

An AI-native company puts AI to work in its daily operations: supervised AI agents run whole processes alongside human teams, who keep the final say. It is a way of working, open to any size or sector. Djtal, the operational AI specialist for Swiss companies, is AI-native itself, with nine agents on its processes, and helps Swiss companies adopt it.

The markers

Three hallmarks of an AI-native company.

Many companies ‘use AI’. Being AI-native goes further.

01 · AI does the work

Supervised agents carry out real processes (invoicing, payment reminders, sorting, preparation) on the company's own tools. Our finance agent reads a supplier invoice that arrives by email and enters it itself when the supplier is pre-approved. Otherwise it prepares the journal entry and stops.

02 · People stay in control

The decisions that matter stay with people. A payment, a publication or a commitment waits for approval. The agent prepares the work, then waits for the click, for hours if need be. Only a routine within set limits, such as a reminder for an overdue invoice, runs without a click. The team puts its energy into judgement and relationships.

03 · Method over tools

An AI-native company can be recognised by how it works, with written scopes, checkpoints, measurement and continuous improvement. When a more capable model comes out (several do each year), it puts the model to use within days, because its working discipline was already in place.

Customer Zero

We are our own first customer.

Djtal runs nine supervised AI agents on its own processes: strategy, communications, sales, projects, administration, finance and knowledge. Each has a written scope and works under human control: every action that commits the company waits for approval. So far Djtal has built 25 AI agents and runs them, for itself and for its clients.

That is Customer Zero: being our own first customer. On 30 June 2026, in the middle of a strategy session, our sales agent spotted that a contact had changed her name since we were last in touch and corrected the CRM record without being asked. See what a supervised AI agent is, our team, human and AI-augmented and the Chronicles, which follow the life of that team episode by episode.

The name the market gives it

Microsoft calls this model the ‘Frontier Firm’.

Microsoft's Work Trend Index (2025, a survey of 31,000 employees in 31 countries, Switzerland included) describes an “AI-operated but human-led” company and sets out three stages of maturity:

  1. Assistants: everyone does their usual tasks, better and faster.
  2. Digital colleagues: agents take on specific tasks, under human direction.
  3. Processes run by agents: people set the direction and decide on the exceptions.

Djtal works at the third stage. Nine agents operate the company, and every decision stays with people. The 2026 edition of the same index shows why so few companies get there: organisational factors (processes, data, governance) account for 67% of AI's impact, while individual employees' proficiency with AI accounts for 32% (Work Trend Index 2026). The AI model itself is rarely the cause. AI projects usually stall at the point of integration with your business, and that integration is the work we do.

Why now

Why 2026 and 2027 matter.

Most AI projects in business stay at the pilot stage, and we explain why they fail and how to make them succeed. The move from the assistant that answers to the agent that acts is happening now. Gartner (June 2025) expects over 40% of agentic AI projects to be abandoned by the end of 2027, for lack of measured value or oversight. The next two years will show which companies keep their agents in production. Becoming AI-native happens in stages, one process after another, with no big-bang technology overhaul. Each stage gives time and margin back.

Frequently asked questions

The AI-native company: common questions.

What is an AI-native company?

An AI-native company is an organisation that puts artificial intelligence to work in its daily operations. In it, supervised AI agents run entire processes alongside people, who keep the final say. Its way of working counts for more than its size or sector.

Does a company have to be a tech company to become AI-native?

No. A small services business, a fiduciary firm (accounting and tax firm) or a distributor can become AI-native without being a technology company. What matters is identifying the repetitive processes, connecting supervised agents to the tools already in place and keeping up a disciplined way of working. Djtal works alongside Swiss companies on this move.

Is Djtal itself an AI-native company?

Yes. Djtal applies the Customer Zero principle, which means being its own first customer. It runs nine supervised AI agents on its own processes (strategy, communications, sales, projects, administration, finance, knowledge), each within a defined scope and under human control.

What is a ‘Frontier Firm’?

The term comes from Microsoft (Work Trend Index 2025). It describes an “AI-operated but human-led” company, where hybrid teams combine employees and AI agents. It is the same thing as the AI-native company described on this page. Djtal applies it to Swiss companies with 20 to 250 employees, with supervised agents connected to the tools they already use.

How do you become an AI-native company?

Becoming AI-native goes process by process. Djtal's method starts with a scoped audit that identifies the processes where AI pays for itself. It then installs the first supervised agent on a real process, puts it into production and expands in stages. People stay in charge at every step.

Get started

Become AI-native at your own pace.

We move to AI one process at a time. Our finance agent enters invoices from pre-approved suppliers itself and prepares the others for approval. Together we pick your equivalent: the process that costs you the most hours today, and what it would take to hand it to an agent. Thirty minutes, with no obligation.
